About the Department of Natural Resources (DNR):
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources protects, enhances, preserves, and wisely uses natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the benefit of Indiana's citizens through professional leadership, management, and education. The Division of Water collects, maintains, and provides water resource information. This includes administering surface and groundwater resource assessments, alleviating flood disaster damages, regulating floodplain areas, reviewing dam and levee projects, and educating the community about water efforts and conservation.
Role Overview:
This position will be in the Technical Services Section of the DNR Division of Water. This section oversees several water-related statutes including the Flood Control Act (IC 14-28-1) and the Lake Preservation Act (IC 14-26-2). The main responsibilities for this role include reviewing permit applications for construction to ensure conformance with statutes and rules including calculating impact to flood elevations and administrative requirements; serving as the point of contact for various permit application and other files that come through the section; communicating floodplain information including mapping, risk, and regulations; and communicating lake and other regulations. Some field work is required, primarily for inspection of permit applications along Indiana's public freshwater lakes. Communication with the public by phone and email regarding the Division's programs and floodplain and lake regulations is a necessary skill for this position. The ideal candidate will have a desire to provide good customer service and a drive for improvement.

Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our to view the total compensation package.

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
A degree is not required. However, at least five (5) years of environmental or environmental public health experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
